This World is Cold

I’m livin locked in a basement without sunlight
So my soul is turning cold like the coldest night
Surrounded by fiends, crackheads in my living room
This cat down the hall makes his living offa mushrooms
And me? I just try to rise above it
Livin life in a warzone, leave it or love it
But I can’t do either, all I want is a way out
I’m sick to death of school, watchin fools getting played out
And hip hop, which used to be my lifeline in hard times
Is stuck on these stupid egotists with clichéd rhymes
There’s so much to say, and so few who’ll say it
And even when they do, the radio won’t play it
It’s all crackheads and freaks out on my corner
And there’s no point actin tough kid, I gotta warn ya
It’s not thugs or pimps who’ll put an end to your life
It’s some random crackhead who’ll disappear in the night

this world is cold, this concrete is colder
And no man can carry this world on his shoulders
I’m tryna make a difference, do the best that I can
But I can’t fix this mess, ya’ll I’m only one man

it’s a long hard road, from here to revolution
my goal in my sights, drownin in the pollution
It’s all fucked up, and that’s the cold hard facts
Makes me wonder how the hell we could ever fight back
But I dream of something better, for everybody I love
more then just the cheddar or escaping with drugs
cuz I know there’s gotta be something more for me
and I can’t settle for less, then my whole family free
because my family tree is rooted in stone
all I have is my mind, my muscle and bone
I’m white trash, I’m cool with that, I’ve made my peace
Still my soul burns adrenaline, rage, and beats
And I’m’a feast at the table of life, sooner or later
If I’m a jedi knight, the president is darth vader
He doesn’t run shit he’s a servant to the throne
But we gotta take him out if we wanna get home

And I’m doin what I can, tryna build for a change
Dreamin of a day when the worlds rearranged
And I won’t have to work at a job that I hate
And not have half my paycheck stolen by the state
But in the meantime, I’ve got to make rent
And I get so pissed off that I’ve just got to vent
A little frustration, a whole lotta rage
At a spectacle society where life is a stage
Television is a drug and we’re livin in a cage
I don’t believe in magic – if I did I’d be a mage
In a duel to the death against these necromancers
Who feed off our pain, and exhale cancer
It’s bigger then the people; it’s the power positions -
The practice of oppression that keeps us in submission
The crooks and corporations, the pigs and plantations
The lies they televise to justify their invasions

this world is cold, this concrete is colder
And no man can carry this world on his shoulders
I’m tryna make a difference, do the best that I can
But I can’t fix this shit ya’ll, I’m only one man
This world is so cold! this concrete is colder
And together we carry this world on our shoulders
We’ve gotta make a difference, doin all that we can
No one can fix it alone ya’ll, but together we can

It begins in the heart and the soul and it grows
Into a burning rage against the cage and control
And it spreads like a wildfire, blazing brightly
burning down the barriers, so unsightly
it lasts for a moment or two, maybe less
before the soldiers of the status quo can repress
the latest incarnation of something so old
the flame of freedom that never gets cold
there’s a new world growing in my heart (I protect it)
the old worlds falling apart (I reject it)
It’s just a matter of time until the time comes
To put down the pen and pick up the gun
When we the people stand up and stop runnin’ scared
And when that day comes you best be prepared
Cuz if you live life for love then there’s nothing to fear
But the pigs and the predator’s lives won’t be spared

this world is cold, this concrete is colder
no man can carry this world on his shoulders
I’m tryna make a difference, doin all that I can
But I can’t fix this shit ya’ll, I’m only one man
This world is so cold! this concrete is colder
And together we carry this world on our shoulders
We’ve gotta make a difference, doin all that we can
we one can fix it alone ya’ll, but together we can
